All donations for Better Life With Refugees (association) go directly to food, housing, Center services or transportation. Not for salaries. Everything is based on volunteering. If you want to donate for our start-up (different entity), through that we will pay stipends for refugees. Go to more detailed list.

Fresh food

We work closely together with several organizations who have connections with all the camps, squats and homeless. We will make sure the food goes to those who need it the most. Through us, or we re-direct the money to other organizations.

International Center

Here we all co-exist. Different ages, cultures, skills or background. The beauty of people from different countries melting together with respect and love. We will also have 'only for women and children' or 'only for men' hours and programs.

Education & vocational skills

Refugees can study or teach different skills. Would it be architecture, yoga or something more tangible. If there is a slot for the lessons between languages and computer skills (most important to get started in Europe) and a group of people want to learn, it's all fine.

Transportation 'Car of Hope'

This is one of the main things we want to do. There are not enough vans or drivers to deliver everything. To answer the demand we would need another van. With another vehicle we would be able to pick up and deliver more donations in Athens and surrounding suburbs.

Furniture, kitchenware, household equipment

We collect, fix and deliver furniture. We do that already with different organizations. But now, we have the basement at the Center to paint or store items. This way, we can deliver right away when someone needs them.

Start-up (different entity, not charity)

Look high, be innovative, respect other people and the planet. This is what we encourage people to be and do. 

To make it clear:

There is Better Life With Refugees charity and there is Better Life With Refugees Start-up. They support each other, but the Start-up can make sales and employ people.  Better Life With Refugees is strictly based on volunteering.

For babies and children

This includes diapers, new underwear or bedding, as well as, milk for the babies. Different types of hygiene products for the whole family. We will distribute them to the refugee camps or squats, or provide them to other organizations who work with families. We also collect donated toys, books and pens.

Housing

This is a tricky question between the law and what is humane. The reality vs bureaucracy. People need a place to live with or without papers. We will try to find the best solution in these cases. People  who are going to travel to another country and are 'stuck' here, are the most vulnerable.

Documents in order

This includes lawyer, notary and filing fees or official translations. We will help refugees to create an email account and teach them how to use. They can scan and store their documents. People may lose their important papers, including residence permits or ID cards and this creates extra difficulties in daily life.

Transportation

  • Stipends for refugees. They will also earn money when they sell the products or art they have made.

Here are some examples of the costs. We hope to get most of the materials donated.

To achieve this we will ask on local Facebook sites, go door to door (local businesses), tell our 'needs' to other organizations, have 'themed' diaper-, toy- or furniture-... '-runs'. 

Legal, translation or filing fees we provide the services as much as we can.

  • Mattress, bedding, towels 40€/person

  • Lamps, cleaning etc

Starting costs:

  • First and last month's rent 

  • At least 6 months rent to guarantee permanency

  • Electricity and water deposits (3 months estimate)

  • Rental agreement and other paperwork

  • For miscellaneous costs 500€
